About the Department of Housing & Residence Education

This department is responsible for maintaining facilities and programming in support of the on-campus community. Approximately 7,500 students live in single-student residence halls. Nearly 1,900 students and their families also live on campus in 980 apartments arranged in Village Communities.

Our Departments

• Business Services (Billing): responsible for resident billings and payments, collections, financial statements, housing supplies and inventory, payroll and personnel, housing accounting, and vendor inquiries.
• Computer Services: supports all housing staff computer systems, program installations, troubleshooting, upgrading, virus protection, etc. Student computing support is available from CIRCA.
• Building Services: responsible for public area and restroom cleaning, pest control, solid waste management, and operation/program development. Students are responsible for keeping their assigned living spaces clean.
• Graduate & Family Housing: responsible for the administration of five Graduate & Family Housing "Village Communities," incoming graduate/family resident inquiries, community development, and programming.
• Maintenance: responsible for all facility repair calls including locks, telephone, cable television, utility outages, AC, plumbing, heating, elevator problems, fire alarms, etc. They also serve as liaisons with contractors, engineers, and vendors for major maintenance/construction projects.
• Network Services: responsible for maintaining the housing administrative and student computer networks (DHNet) including security and upgrades, maintaining the housing intranet, and maintaining "iServiceDesk,” the online maintenance and custodial request system.
• Residence Life and Education: responsible for single-student residence hall programming, judicial programs, and live-in graduate and student staff supervision (Graduate Hall Directors and Resident Assistants). Programming includes leadership opportunities, community development, research, assessment, and educational programming in support of the University mission, social programming, and recreational programming. The Inter-Residence Hall Association and 12 Area Governments are advised by Residence Life and Education staff.
• Undergraduate Assignments: responsible for housing applications, contracts, room assignments, returning student re-contracting and room sign up and data input related to student information.
