Overview

As you approach the front steps of Reid Hall, it is immediately apparent that this is not typical University of Florida residence hall. The colorfully painted columns are indicative of the creativity that lies within the walls of this building. Sponsored by the Department of Housing and Residence Education, the College of Fine Arts, and the Performing Arts at UF, this unique community creates an environment where any student interested in the arts can live together and learn together with other students who share similar interests.

About Reid Hall

Reid Hall houses 166 students, 4 Resident Assistants, and 1 Graduate Hall Director. It is conveniently located near the College of Fine Arts. Reid Hall is part of Yulee Residence Area located near an outdoor swimming pool, a series of tennis courts, and a large grassy area dubbed "Broward Beach" where students and residents meet to enjoy the sun. In close proximity is the Broward Dining Facility. For more information about this facility click here.

Program Goals

The Fine Arts Living Learning Community is comprised of diverse students who share a common bond: the pursuit of creativity and expression. Goals of this community include:

  • To create a residential culture that supports and promotes student academic pursuits and creativity
  • To create an environment where students from all art-related disciplines can collaborate and learn from one another
  • To promote involvement with the arts and rich cultural opportunities available on campus and in the Gainesville community
  • To assist residents interested in the arts in making connections with other interested residents, College of Fine Arts faculty and academic advisors, and related campus resources
  • To provide space and programming opportunities for interested students to engage in artistic expression

Other Academic Resources

Reid Hall features a gallery for art displays, studio space to work on current projects, and a visiting artist-in-residence. Additionally, Reid Hall offers practice hours in the evenings, which permits students to rehearse their musical instruments in the comfort of their own room.
