Murphree Area

The Murphree Area is one of the most beautiful areas on the University of Florida campus and is comprised of 5 traditional residence halls: Buckman Hall, Fletcher Hall, Murphree Hall, Sledd Hall, and Thomas Hall. It is located near Library West, many UF Classrooms, the Academic Advising Center, Racquet Club Dining Center, Florida Gym, the Hub, O’Connell Center, and Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The Murphree Area has the oldest buildings on campus that were later converted into residence halls, therefore no two rooms in the area are the same. Buckman and Thomas Hall were the original University of Florida buildings, and are both listed on the National Register of Historic places. Central AC is scheduled to be installed in Buckman and Thomas halls by Fall 2015, meanwhile students can bring portable AC units with the following conditions: one per room, must be UL approved (no more than 115 volts with a maximum of 10 amps, must be portable units (window units are not allowed), must have window exhaust kits, must have auto evaporators or drain pan shut off switches, and residents must maintain their units in a clean and sanitary manner and assume all liabilities related to the use of the units.

Murphree Returning Gators Program

Returning Gators Program is designed to address the specific needs and interests of second-year students at UF, including academic, career, and leadership development. Residents can earn RGP credits toward a Returning Gators Program Certification while learning about money management, personal wellness, healthy relationships, and career planning.
