Broward Hall is part of the Broward Area
Broward Hall is named in memory of Annie Douglass Broward (1867-1953), Governor Napoleon Bonaparte Broward's wife. She was a strong supporter of charitable, educational, and public welfare programs in Florida and campaigned vigorously for women's equal rights and child welfare laws. She helped organize the Florida Parent-Teachers Association and was the first president of the Jacksonville Women's Club. The hall was dedicated in 1954.
Originally built to house women, Broward Hall went co-ed in 1972 — the last women's residence to do so. Guy Fulton designed Broward Hall and construction was completed at a cost of $1.66 million.
Broward Hall is part of the the Broward/ Rawlings/ Yulee Residence Area. It's< near an outdoor swimming pool, a series of tennis courts, and a large grassy area dubbed " Broward Beach" where students and residents meet to enjoy the sun. In close proximity is the recently-constructed Broward Dining Facility.
Broward Hall is a Faculty-in-Residence Community. Designed to bring faculty and students together beyond the classroom, the Faculty-in-Residence Program at Broward promotes interaction between residents and an on-site faculty member. The faculty-in-residence lives in an apartment in the hall and shares in the residence hall experience with the residents. The faculty-in-residence provides academic advising and helps plan and implement special programs.
