Facility Updates: What's New!?
Here you will find some of the Department's recent accomplishments, projects and upgrades.
Summer 2010
Jennings Hall Renovations
Staff completed the nearly $8 million renovation of Jennings Hall Summer 2009 and 2010. Behind the scenes, renovations included upgraded mechanical systems – new electrical, new plumbing, new fire alarm systems – as well as the addition of fire sprinklers. Renovations that residents could more easily see included new floor tile, new drop ceilings, renovated baths, new tinted/insulated windows, higher efficiency lighting, new paint, and the new look of the Jennings lobby, recreation room, and entry areas.
Tolbert Hall Renovations
Summer 2010, Tolbert Hall baths, lobby area and electrical system were upgraded at a cost of $2.29 million. The Tolbert Hall lobby was transformed to a more formal living area with fresh paint and wood trim, new flooring, new sofas, chairs, coffee table, area rug, and floor lamps. Renovations continue Summer 2011 with new tinted/insulated windows replacing original exterior windows at an estimated cost of $650,000.
Broward Hall Serenity Room
The Broward Serenity Room, UF’s multi-faith, nondenominational prayer room, opened Fall 2010. Comfortable chairs, plenty of floor space, a relaxing water feature, and privacy screens are designed to provide a sense of solitude. The absence of windows and other external factors that might disturb or distract guests supports prayer and relaxation. Additional support for guests includes the renovated restroom next to the Serenity Room which features artwork, custom hand towels, ablution facilities such as a foot bath, additional seating for family, and space for personal items. The Serenity Room is available for use from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily. Contact Broward Hall desk staff for directions and the key to the room.
