This site provides specific information about policies and procedures related to the Florida Prepaid College Program’s Housing Plan and campus housing at the University of Florida.

Florida Prepaid Housing Plan at the University of Florida

The Florida Prepaid Program is a college savings program administered for interested Florida residents by the Florida Prepaid College Board (heretofore referred to as Florida Prepaid).  Family members must signup for the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan by the student’s 8th grade year.  We encourage students and/or parents interested in learning more about how to sign up for this program to visit their website.

Prepaid Policies/Procedures by Student Type

Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students

The first 764 incoming students with the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan with Housing Application Dates on/before March 1 are guaranteed assignment to a traditional air-conditioned double room (not to a specific building).  Students with Housing Application Dates after March 1, may be offered a housing contract, but are not guaranteed a particular room type.

To ensure contract offers are correctly made, incoming students with the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan should identify themselves by selecting “Yes” to the related question on the housing application.

Additionally, to aid in processing, when completing the Fall/Spring housing contract, students with the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan must identify themselves as such. Housing and Residence Education staff will verify enrollment in the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan. As a result of this additional step, students are strongly encouraged to begin the contract process as soon as they are offered a housing contract.

Provided the student has not previously completed a housing contract with another state university in Florida, Florida Prepaid will be billed for the student’s Fall/Spring contract advance rent payment after completion of the contract. All housing contracts must be completed by the student’s due date to ensure the student is guaranteed a space in campus housing.

Students with the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan may preference any hall or room type as a part of their housing contract.  A list of buildings with traditional air-conditioned double rooms is provided below (financial implications of being assigned to a difference type of space is noted below).

See “Policies for All Prepaid Housing Residents” below for additional information.

Current Residents
Current residents with additional semesters of credit in the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan must do the following to return to campus housing for another academic year (Fall/Spring):

  • Enter the housing lottery in late Fall or early Spring Semester
  • Be selected in the housing lottery drawing to participate in Room Signup
  • Complete Room Signup by the deadline

Due to the need to make space available for incoming students, some years we are unable to accommodate all current residents that want to return to campus housing for another academic year (financial implications of selecting a difference type of space is noted below).

Students with the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan may select different room types and/or different residence halls (other than those noted below) when completing the Room Signup process.

See “Policies for All Prepaid Housing Residents” below for additional information.

Off-Campus Students
Students living off-campus with additional semesters of credit in the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan must apply for campus housing.  Due to the need to make space available for incoming students and our current residents that are selected in the lottery drawing, many years we are unable to accommodate off-campus students that would like to live in campus housing for Fall Semester.

See “Policies for All Prepaid Housing Residents” below for additional information.

Summer Housing

At the University of Florida, Florida Prepaid Housing Plan cannot be used to pay campus housing costs for Summer A and/or B since the use of 1 semester of Prepaid Housing credit for a 6½ week summer semester instead of a 17 week Fall or Spring semester would greatly reduce the value of the plan.

What Prepaid Covers

For those students attending the University of Florida for Fall and Spring Semesters, the Florida Prepaid Housing Plan will pay the cost of a traditional air-conditioned double room, a room in which 2 students share a bathroom with the other students on their floor.  (All buildings with traditional air-conditioned double rooms have single-gender floors.)  For Fall 2008/Spring 2009, this amount was $1,958 per semester.

Students assigned to higher priced rooms are responsible for paying the difference between the cost of their room and a traditional air-conditioned double room.  Students assigned to lower priced rooms will be refunded the difference between their room rate and a traditional air-conditioned double room after payment is received by Florida Prepaid.

Students enrolled in Florida Prepaid Housing Plan are personally responsible for all charges, prorations, and other policies outlined in the Terms and Conditions of the Residence Hall Contract.
